The bird of paradise flower grows throughout the islands. The flowers are sturdy and are often mixed with Anthuriums and Red Ginger flowers in arrangements. The blue and orange part of the flowers are typically mixed with green ferns and sewn into Haku Leis, which are worn on the head.
